I have the exact same problem, but it's not caused by a lighted doorbell. Without the doorbell connect (and not crossing the wires) the chime mechanism keeps repeating. I'm not sure whether it's because the contacts aren't lined up correctly or whether it's a wiring problem. I've tinkered and tinkered to no avail.
